QuestionHi! I am newly pregnant with our 4th child. A bit of a surprise, if you will.
I've had 3 c-sections so far - at 30, 32, and 34. I am 37 now and will be 39 when this one is due. I have large babies (9 lbs, 10lbs and 10lbs) and was never eligible for a VBAC for that reason, according to my OB.
I haven't had my first appointment yet. What, if anything, will be different now that I'm "old." Will they recommend different tests? Any different protocol for visits?
I did not ever have gestational diabetes (I do have PCOS, though), but I did have placenta previa with the last one (it moved prior to birth) as well as unexplained very high blood pressure following birth. I have also had polyhydramnios with all 3, more severe with the first, mild with the last.
What are the chances of any sort of placenta problems or other complications again?
Would any of this be cause to label me "high-risk?"
Should I take any precautions against potential BP issues (my BP during pregnancy for all 3 has been good). If so, what?
I have gained quite a bit of weight since the last pregnancy, if that has any bearing on your answers.
Thanks so much!
AnswerHi,
I had my last baby at age 38 and we are considered high risk due to our age. We are more prone to certain complications in pregnancy such as diabetes, high blood pressure etc. but if you are healthy you will have a uncomplicated pregnancy. They will do more testing and monitoring during your pregnancy which is a good thing. Try to eat very healthy without gaining a lot of weight. I have noticed women that are over weight do have more complications more so than women that are older. Once you hit 35 they will consider you advanced maternal age, and will watch you alittle more closely. Hope this helps. thankyou
