Birth Control & Cramping: What to Expect & When to Worry

Question
Hello,
I have been on the birth control pill, Seasonale, for a month now. As you probably know, active pills are taken for 3 months straight, so there is supposed to be no period.

For the first month, I had no trouble with the pill, really. A little breast tenderness, but that's all. Now I am spotting..not as heavy as a normal period..but not really what i would call 'spotting'. What really worries me is that I started having cramps with this spotting. The cramps are mild usually, except for at night when I go to bed, they get a little bit worse. Is this normal? Does this mean the pill is not working?

Answer
As long as you are taking the pill at the some time everyday, then you are okay. Your body will take a few months (possibly more with this type of birth control) to get on a regular schedule. If the cramps get really painful, talk to your doctor. Also, try taking Midol Cramps - it works really well.
