I am 17 years old and my mother is incarcerated. I told her I was having sex and she said that was fine but she doesnt' want me to do it anymore until I get on birth control. I live with my aunt and she is very strict and they said that if they found out I was having sex they would have my boyfriend arrested. But I know they can't do that because I have already asked a police man about about it. But I know they will try to make me stop seeing him. How can I get birth control without them knowing about it and as long as I have my mom's consent it should be okay right?
Answer -
Contact your local planned parenthood or county health center. Call ahead and explain that you need to get on birth control without your aunt knowing. I would suggeest getting the shot, or an IUD (which is what I have and I love it. Insertion is VERY painful, but totally worth it). Those options all you to be protected without having pills or patches around for someone to find. PLEASE contact me again if you need anymore help. It wasn't that long ago that I was in your situation. Also - please use condoms even AFTER you get on the pill. You lower your risk of pregnancy SOOO much!

Dianna,
Hi, Is the shot easier? Do I have to go back every few weeks to get it? And what does all this cost? Thanks so much for your help!

There are a few different types of shots. One of them youget every 3 months and another you get every month. When I was on the shot, I have a very long period - so that is why I decided to go off of it. Through your local planned parenthood, you can get birth control for free.

Dianna,
How soon can they get me in for an appointment do you think? I'm really nervous. Will they let my boyfriend go in there with me? So even when I go to get the pills from the pharmacy will they charge me anything? And do you know about how much weight I will gain? Thanks!
Erin
AnswerI have no idea how long it takes to get an appointment where you are. Your boyfriend can go in with you, and he should so that he understands everything. There is no charge for birth control. And talk to your doctor about weight gain. The weight that you might gain while on birth control is NOTHING compared to what you would gain if you got pregnant.
