Safely Stopping Birth Control: What to Expect & Period Regulation

Question
I've been on birth control for about 2 years and i wanna stop taking it. I started because i wanted it to regualate my period but its not doing that. My period hasnt been on the same day ever nor have they been close. Will it hurt or help me to just stop taking them? My boyfriend and I would like to start a family so I wish to not take them but do I need them for my period if there not regualateing it?

Answer
Hello,
Did you get the following email? Please let me know.

Hi Michelle,
I want to let you know that I'm not a medical professional so I suggest that you check with your physician or whoever prescribed the pills for you. I just received a question yesterday about this same problem. I don't agree with taking birth control for regulating your periods. Why don't you try going off and seeing what happens? Your period should regulate itself unless your physician has told you otherwise. Are you thinking about getting married soon and having kids? Please email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com and maybe I can advise you further.
Thanks.
