Birth Control & Miscarriage Concerns: What to Do?

Question
Dianna,
Hi, my girlfriend (who is on birth control) and I last had sex on May 22nd.  At the time she had just finished her period and was going to start a new pack soon.  I was wearing a condom and there weren't any problems (leakage or breaking of the condom) as well.  In the past week she missed 3 pills in her pack and started bleeding.  She called her doctor, who said this was normal when you miss 3 pills and to start a new pack, but now she is concerned that she may have actually been pregnant and miscarried.  She thinks this may have been the case because she was feeling nauseated more than usual in the past few weeks (thinking maybe it was morning sickness).  Naturally, now I am going crazy because I am not ready to get my girlfriend pregnant.  But anyway, just wanted to know what you thought (if she was pregnant, is pregnant or wasn't at all).  Thank you,

Matt

Answer
I doubt that she could have gotten pregnant from your May 22 encounter. But she could have been pregnant before that. All I can suggest is that she take a pregnancy test. Also, she might want to think about a different method of birth control - like an IUD or the shot. With these methods, you don't have to remember to do anything!
