Birth Control Effectiveness: What to Do After Skipping Pills & Unprotected Sex
QuestionHello,
I have been on birth control for about five years now but recently I was moving and just skipped out on about a week of my pack. However, for the last month and two weeks I have been taking them on time and last night I had unprotected sex and I was wondering if my birth control will be effective. I know that when my doctor prescribed the pills to me, she said they take about three months to be effective but I don't know if that was just because I was starting the pills for the first time. Basically, I just want to know if you suggest I should buy plan B before the 72 hours are up. Thank you so much!
AnswerKatie, I'm sorry but I didn't get your question until now. What did you decide? You can email me at CHERYL51@aol.com so we can talk more. I would not have recommended getting Plan B or any kind of emergency contraceptives. In my opinion, there are too many side effects possible from taking the strong hormonal dose. You should have had a very small chance of pregnancy from your scenario but it was still possible. Let me know what happens. Oh, and by the way, there is really no such thing as "protected" sex. Even if you take the pill or use some other method of birth control, every time you have sex, you risk pregnancy.
Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
