Sponge Birth Control: A Comprehensive Guide for Couples

Question
My fiance and I are getting married in August.  We haven't had sex yet, and aren't planning to until the night of our wedding.  We've been looking at different birth control (bc) options, and we've ended at the sponge.  She doesn't want to do the hormone thing, and I can't blame her, and the sponge seems to be our best bet right now.  We're also going to do some natural, calender methods (standard days, etc).  Condoms are pretty much out (selfish, I know), and so are IUD's.  Any other bc ideas?  Any idea which might be good?  I just now read your "instructions," and while I agree with your pro-life stance, I won't be surprised or offended if I don't get an answer.  Thanks for any help.

Dan

Answer
congratulations on your wedding and your chastity.  Both somewhat rare these days.  When using a barrier method of birth control, you are never certain of your protection.  SEx makes babies and there is no 100% effective birth control.  Using one gives you the illusion of control over something uncontrolable.

I would get a hold of some of the reading material on the website I recommend for Natural Family Planning and educate yourself about the natural approach to understanding your fertility and your future wife's cycles.  It is the best plan, the safest, the most effective and on top of that, it is a marriage builder not a destroyer!

Birth control is an expected practice but it is very hard on women.  Best of luck.  You could just have babies!  Children are a gift from God.  Fertility is also a gift and you really can't know how much of it you have and sometimes you don't have any.
