Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo Side Effects: Delayed Period & Cramps - What to Do

Question
I am on Ortho Tri Cyclin Lo and have been for almost 2 years now. I've only
had this problem once before. I am on my third week (the blue pills) and
shouldn't be getting my period until about a week. I have been however
getting terrible cramps and the "first day" discharge for about three days
now. It seems like each time I take my pill (and I take it at night),it puts off my
period for another day, until I finally start my placebo's on sunday, and then it
usually starts around Wednesday. Last time this happened, I had my period
for a full 2 weeks (the week I was still on the pill, AND the placebo week).
Would you reccomend stopping the pill today and just letting my body have
my period, and then starting it up the next sunday after my period ends? Or
should I wait it out and possibly have my period for the next two weeks?

Thanks a lot!

Answer
Hi Julia,
I've had this same question a couple of times lately. I suggest that you talk to your personal physician as I'm not a medical doctor. This sounds like a problem to me and I don't know what to recommend. Have you ever thought about switching birth control methods? I recommended the same thing to the other women who had your same problem. The hormones in the pills can really make your cycle irregular and I'm not sure that's really healthy. I recommend non-hormonal methods such as condoms(not very effective) and Natural Family Planning. Or abstinence. Please email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com and let me know what happens. I'm interested.
I don't know if this is very helpful but I wish you the best.
Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
