Depo Shot Side Effects & Cycle Changes: What to Expect
QuestionI am on the depo shot. I have been on the shot for about 6 months now. At first I was having a period every other month, but now I am bleeding mostly every day for the last 3 months. Is that normal for a person who is on the shot? Also, in December I have decided to not take the shot any longer. I want to start taking a type of birth control pill. Will using a different type of birth control method affect my body? After the shot wears off, how long will it take for my cycle to return back normal?

Hi Tieonda,
I'm not a medical doctor so I suggest you check with your personal physician to find out what is recommended for your situation. However, in my research, I have found out many side effects for each method of birth control. I am happy that you have decided to go off depo. You have made a wise decision. The bleeding worries me and I hope you can have a checkup. In my opinion, the birth control pill has dangerous side effects as well. I would say that your cycle should return to somewhat normal within 3-6 months. Please email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com and we can talk more about things.
Thanks.
