Heavy Breakthrough Bleeding on Birth Control: What to Do?

Question
I have been on birth control for almost two years now and I have had a little break through bleeding during the month before, more so in the past year. This time it is a little different because the bleeding is pretty strong and I am only finishing the second week of pills. When I started this pack, the first pill I took about 12 hours later and I took another one a few hours late too during the first week. Is this normal? Could there be a chance that I am pregnant? My boyfriend and I have had unprotected sex(besides birth control) during this month. I just want to know if there is a big chance I could be or if my body is just messed up and this is normal.

Answer
Check with your healthcare provider. You may need a different dosage. It is recommended to take the pill the same time every day. If you took the pill every day and didn't miss a day the chances of pregnancy are still small. But again, check with your provider.
