Persistent Vaginal Infections & Mirena Removal: Seeking Relief

Question
In August I experienced burning symptoms which started during intercourse, but continued afterwards especially when wiping. I used an over the counter yeast infection medicine and it didn't work so I went to my ob, they said it was BV, they treated me three times for BV and no relief. I then asked them to remove the IUD thinking maybe it was making me more susceptible to BV, they did and also took a culture and sent me home with more meds for the BV. A week later they called and said the culture showed yeast and prescribed yeast infection med. I took the yeast infection medication for 7 days three times before finally experiencing relief from all symptoms. Since the removal of my iud I bled for a few days upon removal then after 4 weeks I bled for 5 days which I thought was my period, but now two weeks since the last bleeding started I am bleeding again. So my question I guess is if the irregular bleeding is a normal result of removing the iud or is it something to do with the BV/yeast infections. I'm afraid something else is wrong with me and maybe I'm being misdiagnosed! Also I am nursing a 10 month old every 3-5 hours day and night if that adds anything to the situation. I am very confused as to what my body is doing, I have never experienced problems like these. The IUD that I just had removed was my second one, I did not have any trouble with the first and my cycles were normal right away after the removal of the first one. Hope this is not too confusing. Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Tricia,
I don't think the bleeding has anything to do with BV and probably nothing to do with the IUD if you weren't having bleeding problems while you had it.  It probably has a lot to do with nursing a 10 month old every 3-5 hours.  While you're nursing your hormones are usually not really regular.  Stress is a common cause of irregular bleeding, and being a fairly new Mom and having interrupted sleep is stressful.  So if the bleeding isn't too heavy or going on for too long I'd try to ignore it and just take really good care of yourself.  Otherwise go in for a check.
