Depo Provera & Irregular Periods: What to Expect (and When to Worry)

Question
Hi I've spoken to you before about BC. I started the birth control shot Depo Provera about two weeks after I had a D&C for a blighted ovum(miscarriage). After my surgery I bled for about a week and a half. Then I started the shot. Im 15 yrs old by the way. I got my first actual period about two weeks ago, and I still have it. It started light, got a lil heavier  then got lighter so I figured it would be over. Didnt bleed for a day, and then it was back. Should I be worried?

Answer
Hi Jameela,

Yes, I remember you and your lovely name! It's a little concerning about your bleeding. I would recommend that you call your doctor and just explain to him what is happening. I don't know if I have told you before, but I don't recommend any kind of hormonal birth control so I would not advise you to get any more shots. Also, consider abstinence in your life. You need to be concerned about your health because it is the utmost importance. Hope to hear from you soon at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com
