Delayed Period: Causes, Concerns & What to Do

Question
Hi there,
I'm  a little worried because I haven't gotten my period yet and it was due around the 28th of december. I am usually a bit irregular with my periods but only by a few days and I always get it towards the end of each month. I am on the pill ( the one you take for 21 days where every pill is the same) and have been for a few years now ( I'm 20 years old), and my boyfriend and I always use condoms also. I got my period as normal last month and we had sex once last month and it wasn't vaginal intecourse so i guess I shouldn't be to worried about the possibility of being pregnant? When I was 5 days late I took 2 pregnancy tests that came back negative but after reading online about people who have many negative tests and then turn out to be pregnant I am a bit worried. And also people go on about how you can still get a period if you are pregnant so its a bit worrying.
I took another two tests this morning that came back negative and I know it sounds silly to still be worried. I've talked about it with my boyfriend who thinks my period is probably missed because I don't always take my pills at exactly the same time so it might be to do with hormones etc. when my period was due I had some crampy feeling like it was coming but it didn't and I think worrying probably doesn't help.
I just wanted to know what other causes of a missed period could be? I am a bit overweight but I am hoping to change that as a new years resolution, I haven't been stressed around the time it was due only now when I'm worrying why its not here.
I don't know if this is relevant either but in recent months I have been to the hospital a few times to get tests on a thyroid lump that turned out to be a harmless cyst.
I feel pretty well apart from occasional headaches and the pill has never given me any bad side effects. Is it worth waiting until next month to see if I miss it again before going to the doctor? Should I just try to relax about it because the thought of going to the doctor worries me even more right now.
Thank you

Anna

Answer
Dear Anna,

I just found your question in the question pool at ALLEXPERTS.com
I know that you probably wrote that question to another expert but that person was not able to answer for some reason. So I was going to try to help. But I see that you asked this question on 1/9 so probably by now, you know if you are pregnant or not. Please let me know what happened. Please ask me a followup question on allexperts.com or please email me at CHERYL51@aol.com and I will respond.

Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
