Post-Birth Control Period Irregularities: What to Expect

Question
I was on depro provera from january 2009 till september 2009. I then switched to the ortho evra patch november 13 2009. 1 week later I stopped the patch (nov 19, 2009) due to an allergic reaction. On the 25th of november i started bleeding which lasted for 2 weeks. Since then I have not had a menstrual cycle and I took a test urine pregnancy test this past january and it was negative. Is it normal not to have a period this long after stopping birth control? Thank you.

Answer
After stopping depo provera it sometimes takes a while (3-10 months) for regular cycles to resume.  It just takes a while for the depo provera effects to get out of your system.  If you get other bleeding lasting longer than a week, I would see your doctor to help control it.  The birth control pill will usually regulate your cycle if you choose to take it.  Otherwise there's not much to do except wait for your cycle to get regular again.
