Cycle Regulating After Birth Control: What to Expect
QuestionI have been on birth control (trinessa) for the past 14 months following the birth of my 3rd baby. My husband and I have decided to try for baby #4 so on October 22 I took my last pill in the pack. That Wednesday (4 days later) I got my period as normal. It last the normal 3 days and was completely gone by that Saturday. This past Sunday I would normally have started the next pack. Now today is Tuesday, only two days after not starting a new pack and I started bleeding pretty heavy. Is this normal? I have read that it can take a while to even get a period after stopping the pill so I am assuming this is a good sign that my body is taking back control of things and that I can assume this is my first non pill period. Is this possibly a correct assumption? To time ovulation should I use today as the first day of my "new" cycle? I didnt expect things to start back to normal so quickly so I am wondering if that is even what I am having or if this could be something else.
AnswerIt's unusual that you would start bleeding just a few days after finishing your withdrawal period from the pill. I don't know why you are. I don't think it can be anything serious. It's very hard to predict just when you'll ovulate until you've had your first normal period off the pill. Most women won't ovulate for 3-4 weeks after stopping the pill. I would wait until you get your next period before thinking much about when ovulation may occur. If the bleeding lasts for longer than a period, I would see your doctor to check out why you've had this bleeding.
