Changes in Period After Birth Control: What to Know
QuestionHi I'm 23 and have been on the pill alesse 21 for 7 years and have always gotten my period sat at noon every month with regular flow lasting 4 days usually until Wednesday with 1 spotting day at the end. Recently it has been coming Sunday mornings and ends Tuesday. So it's alot shorter and has also gotten a lot lighter to the point where I forget I even have my period. Not that I'm complaining. However this worries me. I read that this could be a thyroid problem and in April I had a hemithyroidectomy and found out about it in December. These shorter periods happened shortly after.
I was wondering what the possible causes of shorter lighter period and moving date and time could be and what I should do about this. (I have regular intercourse if that makes any difference as I hear it could play a role over time)
Thank you for your time and information
AnswerDear Jen,
I would advise you to ask your doctor about this situation. I really can't advise over the internet. You mentioned that you found out about your thyroid problem but when did this happen. I've had thyroid problems now so I understand the situation.
You might also consider going off the pill and go on something that is non-hormonal. Generally, hormonal birth control methods can cause side effects and have long-term and short-term risks.
Please email me at CHERYL51@aol.com and we can talk about all these subjects. Would love to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
