Unprotected Sex & Potential Pregnancy: What To Do

Question
QUESTION: i had unprotected sex on new years eve and scared of being pregnant what can i do? please help

ANSWER: Dear Amanda,
You can try taking Plan B, or the Morning After Pill.  It is still recommended if it has been less than five days after unprotected sex.  If you live in the United States, you can get it in most pharmacies.  However, it is not 100% effective, so you can try crossing your fingers, and checking a pregnancy test a week after the incident.  If it's negative, you are probably not pregnant; if you don't bleed, check another pregnancy test a week later (two weeks after the incident).
I hope this is helpful,
Doctor Joan

QUESTION: do you know how much the plan b is? plus i had just gotten off my period does this help me?

Answer
Amanda,
The chances of getting pregnant are less right after your period, but that is certainly not reliable.  Plan B is about $50 in the drugstores. If you live in New York City you can go to Earlyabortionoptions.com and get it for $20.  I hope this is helpful,
