QuestionHello, first let me start by saying thank you for reading My e-mail. I'm a 36 yr
old woman who is 6 weeks pregnant, this would be a great thing if I was
ready and my partner aswell. I really want more children as I have a 12 yr old
now. For two weeks now I have ben going back and fourth with what to do. I
have had many abortions in the past not that I'm proud and I 'm scared to
have any more, but feel it is the best in this current situation to wait, but my
age being a factor do you think I will be able to conceive at a later date if I
terminate now?? I an truly worried, the last termination I had two back to
back was in 2003 by my ex husband who was extremely abusive it was not an
option then to keep it. Now 5 yrs later I'm pregnant again but definitely not
ready. but will be in a yr. Please let me know what you think Thank you
AnswerHi, Heather,
By now you may have resolved your question, but just in case, I will tell you my thoughts.
It could easily be that having another abortion could prevent you from ever becoming pregnant again. It wouldn't be because you are 36, but because abortion scars the uterus. It could lead to blockage of the Fallopian tubes, which would prevent you from conceiving, because the sperm would never reach an egg. More importantly, it could cause a tubal pregnancy, which is a death sentence for the baby, and life-threatening for you. Perhaps this time, you have conceived the only child you will ever conceive again.
It is common for people not to be ready to have a child when the woman becomes pregnant. We women are pregnant 9 months for a reason. It gives us a chance to prepare and be ready. If you are already 36, why don't you feel ready? This is a question you should ask yourself. Abortion is forever; you can't take it back. Be VERY sure of your decision. The more you know about pregnancy and abortion, the better you will feel about your decision, so inform yourself. Also keep in mind that it is common for a woman to become pregnant repeatedly, especially if she wants a child (as you do) but doesn't feel ready. One thing that happens is that women sometimes conceive replacement babies; the baby is intended to be a replacement for one lost earlier. In that case, the woman will probably continue to become pregnant repeatedly until she is no longer able to have children. You have to break the cycle by having the baby you are carrying.
