Cytotec Abortion: Understanding Success & Post-Procedure Symptoms

Question
Hey there,i was six weeks pregnant and took 800mg of cytotec vaginally and during the first 12 hours i experieced crumps, heavy bleeding and clots..its been three days now and am still bleeding lightly though but no crumps.I cannot afford an ultrasound and was wondering if the dose was enough and how else i can find out if the abortion was successful.

Answer
Dear Lydia,
It sounds from what you describe tha the medical abortion with cytotec was sucessful.  You took the correct dose, and you bled more than a period.  You can get a blood test (quantitative hCG)in a week. If it is less than 2000 you can be assured that it was successful.  Since it sound like you have a high chance of success, you could also try a urine pregnancy test (the one with two lines) in one week.  It will likely be positive.  A week later, check a second test and compare it to the first.  The line should be more faint or negative by that time.  Also, pregnancy symptoms are very reliable - if you have been feeling nauseous and it goes away you can be assured that you are no longer pregnant.
I hope this is helpful,
