QuestionQUESTION: Hi I had an abortion at 6 weeks pregnant on the 5th of january
I bled for 4 days passed big clots etc
3 weeks later i took a pregnancy test which was negative i thought everything was ok as instructed by the clinic
I then felt something was not right, I again took a digital pregnancy test this time which showed as pregnant. I was advised these were sensitive and may pikup a hormone, therefore I opted for a cheap supermarket one which again came positive.
I rang the abortion clinic and went for a checkup on wednesday who confirmed the old pregnancy and any tissue was out and on their tests it showed negative.
They suggested this could be a very early new pregnancy and it may not show on their dipstick tests they use at doctors yet, however we have used condoms and do not understand. Today I have slight brown bleeding which is when wiped with a tissue,I usually suffer from heavy painful periods and this is not like my period. Am I miss-carrying or is this an implantation bleed or was I never pregnant im really confused.
Thankyou
Sarah
ANSWER: Hello, Miss M,
You're welcome.
You haven't told me what kind of abortion you had, and that's important. Also, did you measure your pregnancy from your last menstrual period, or from the date of conception? Are you experiencing any symptoms of pregnancy? Please let me know.
The first pregnancy test you had may have been outdated or defective. Pregnancy hormones usually last awhile after abortion. Or it could be a new pregnancy. Condoms often fail, so they're not really useful to prevent pregnancy. The only truly reliable method of preventing pregnancy is to abstain. Abortion is dangerous and could cause you and your future children grave harm, so it is not good medicine. You should not consult with the people who provided the abortion. Their medical judgment cannot be trusted. They should know abortion is bad medicine and should have refused to do one on you.
Nobody will be able to tell you over the internet whether you are pregnant or not. What you will need to do is simply watch the situation, and test again in about a week and see how that compares with your last test. Let me know how things go.
If you are pregnant again, there are organizations in UK that can help you with whatever problems you are facing. You can find one near you by going to this web site:

The link to the lists is on the right.

AnswerHello, Sarah,
The fact you had a pill abortion explains the bleeding you described. The first time, you said you are from UK, and now you say you are from Germany. Although there are organizations in Germany, I don't have ready access to information about them, though I can get it in a day or two, if you let me know what city you are close to.
6 weeks on the scan is a little late, and sometimes pills don't have any effect that late. You really should not smoke anymore. It will cause a huge stress on your body and could cost you your life. So take this opportunity to stop for good. Don't ever just try one after you have quit, because you'll get hooked again. Tobacco is formulated to keep people addicted. Also, if you are pregnant again, or still pregnant, it will harm your baby's lungs if you continue to smoke.
Whether or not you are pregnant will become more obvious after a couple of weeks, so you may have to just be patient.
As for bloating, this may represent a deficiency of some kind, in minerals or other nutrients, and there may be ways to alleviate this. Eat less salt, but don't go sodium-free. Sore breasts will resolve. A pregnant woman needs about ten hours of sleep a night.
I hope all goes well with you. Please let me know how you do.
