Massage Contraindications: A Comprehensive Guide for Students
QuestionI have started a massage course and am learning about contraindications. Why wouldn't I be able to massage a client if they had the following:
Spastic conditions
epilepsy
History of thrombosis
Recent haemorrhage
Cuts/abrasions
Fractures and sprains
I think I know the answer to a couple of them but I can't seem to find a definite confirmation on any website.
I hope you can help me with this matter.
Regards
Sue
AnswerSue,
I don't do homework for students--and I don't know why you're having to look on the web-shouldn't the answers be in your massage therapy courses? Do you know the meanings of the words? That might help. Like thrombosis-look up the word--and that should help a lot. Make sure you're distinguishing between something the client has now, and has had in the past. If you're still uncertain, of course, ask for an okay from their doctor. If the answers really aren't in your coursework, write back and we'll go from there. Good luck with your studies and future practice. Also, please don't take offense at the first sentence-I don't know how else to put it and can't do for one person what I don't for everyone else. I do know that some classes are a bit lacking, which is why I said to write back if you really can't find the answers. Thank you for your inquiry!
