Hamstring Strain Recovery: When to Stretch & Return to Activity

Question
Hi, I "tweaked" my hamstring 2 days ago, I've been icing since and using a tensor bandage during the day. When can I start to stretch it out (pain is slight and isolated)? Also, when I do get back into running/playing should I keep tensor on or is that too restrictive?

I wear a knee brace also, the top strap was tight and I believe that's what cause the "tweak"

Thanks Heaps

Answer
Hi, Daimin.  I would love to be able to answer your question, fully, but since it has only been two days and I do not know the severity of the injury, it's difficult for me to say. It might not be just that the strap was too tight, causing the tweak, but perhaps certain muscles were weakened from continuous use of the brace? and others over used. The best advice I can give at this point is to see a doc if it does not improve in the next couple days.  In my experience, icing it is  a good thing, especially in the beginning. Do take care of it, though (as you are), hamstring injuries aren't something to take lightly, can caues other problems, potentially.  Probably a PT would be able to answer your question much better than I can.  Good luck with it and I wish it fast healing.
