QuestionHello-
I have had a case of tendinitis in my elbow now since about December of 2004. It is not a throbbing pain, rather a pain that occurs only when my elbow is bumped into something. The pain in centered on the inside part of the tip of my elbow.
I live a very active life in which I compete in sports leagues 3 days out of the week and train with weights the other 3. I realize a complete resting of my elbow for a month would probably fix the problem, but it is just not feasible. Are there certain stretches I can do to strengthen the tendons in my elbow or any other massage treatment I could do myself?
Thanks for the advice/help.
AnswerGreetings Eric. Thank you for your question. You did not say what treatments you already received. Have you seen a doctor? Have you tried anti-inflamatories? Have you tried physio-therapy with ultra-sound? This is a very common problem and treatment is well catered for. Don't use any asian type deep-heat lotions, creams or anything of that nature. All that stuff does is create a sensation of well-being. After an event/training have you iced the inflammed area? The ice stops internal bleeding.
I doubt that stretching will solve anything at all. If stretching was the answer-you would have mentioned restriction of movement. As for massage-massage is dose dependent. It does not last all that long. It might help-but I doubt it in the long run. At best, massage will mask the pain-but don't expect the massage to cure anything. Massage does not have those attributes.
Please keep in touch. I could treat you if you lived in Auckland. I have had a lot of success with the Thai Kick Boxers and tennis players.
If you would like any further information-please feel free to contact me again.
Cheers and all the best.
