Glute Antagonists: Release Tension & Address Pain

Question
I have pain in my right glute. What are the antagonist muscles to work that will result in the glutes relaxing. i believe my right glute is firing when it shouldn't be and I need to find the antagonist to work on. Thank you very much.

Gary

Answer
Thanks for your question, Gary.

In consideration that you have only mentioned that your "right glute" is paining you, keep in mind that the "glute" is one of a group of 3 muscles (gluteus maximus, medius, and minimus).

The Gluteus maximus is an extensor muscle and its antagonist would be Iliopsoas, the flexor muscle. If it's  your gluteus medius and/or gluteus minimus, the abductor muscles, then the antagonists would be the adductor group of muscles.

Hope that answers your question and helps resolve your pain.
