Recovering After a Long Walk: Tips for Relaxation and Muscle Relief

Question
Dear Sir,

If you walk for a long time, at the end of that day, you normally would feel tired, especially at your legs.

What should you do when that happens? Should you go for a shower or just lie on the bed?

Thank you.

Answer
Hi and thanks for your question!

The answer to your question and 'recharge would depend on 2 factors.

1/ If you are a fit person or not.
2/ What is the ambient temperature.

In both situations, the recovery is just the same.

If you are fit or unfit, and the temperature is warm or cold take time to 'cool' down by stretching for about 10 minutes after the exercise. You can then shower with alternating bouts of warm water for 1 minute seconds and cold water for 30 seconds. This should be repeated for about 5 times.

You may then lie in bed.

Showering with cool water immediately after exercise without stretching for 10 mins will likely cause your muscles to ache afterwards because of the production of lactic acid. You may google the techniques for stretching after a long walk.

Hope this helps!
