Gel Nail Experience: A Cautionary Tale & What to Look For
QuestionI wanted to tell you that I had gel nails done a few weeks ago and had absolutly no problems. I had to get them filled today and a friend recommended me to the "Asian" women who does her nails. It was AWFUL!! I experienced pain during the drilling and she drilled too much and cut my finger with the drill!! Then she proceeded to pour alcohol onto my fingers-OUCH!!!! I should have left right then and there. I found later when i got home that my nail beds were red. I have red lines that were not there before. What is this? Are my nail beds permanetly damaged now? How can I fix this? I called back to tell her they were red and she said this is "normal." I'm sorry but I find it hard to believe it's normal. Please help!!-jackie thanks
AnswerLet me say i am very sorry that you had this terrible experience, let me tell you it is NOT normal. Having your nails done should never be painful, Unfortunately there are several salons in the trade that simply have no regard for the client or the reputation of the trade what so ever (and sometimes they don't even respect the law by using cheaper illegal products).
Gladly the damage done to your nails is not permanent, it will grow out with your nails. I hope this doesn't discourage you from wearing nail enhancements, in fact wearing enhancements will protect your nails while they are growing out and will probably avoid you some pain that you would probably have by wearing them natural now.
But from now on be careful where you go to have your nails done. I don't like to generalize saying that Asian women are the ones to blame, because there are bad techs of several nationalities. Always be suspicious of discount salons, salons that don't let you see what brand they are using or are using blank products, salons that clearly have a poor hygiene. Choose a salon with a qualified tech (usually most techs are very proud to show their diplomas and hang them in everyone's sight) and that uses a reputable brand, and remember if at any time you feel any pain simply leave and have your nails done elsewhere.
Hope i could help.
