Differin & Sun Damage: Can I Reverse Hyperpigmentation?
Questionok i have acne prone skin and have been prescribed differin and antibiotics.....well i have been using it for two months and my acne is better but the minor scars and hyperpigmitation have darkend....i relized its because i wasnt wearing sunscreen and that its also been getting sunnier and hot......if i start wearing sunscreen will this go away.....or did i damage my skin.....
Answer Starting to wear a good sunblock (it should say it blocks uva and uvb rays) will definitely help. Your hyperpigmentation is damage, but it's not irreversible. There are products with lighteners in them such as Neostratas Skin Lightening Gel, Skin Ceuticals pigment regulator, or other such things that have kojic acid, arbutin or licorice root, they are all skin lighteners. Also you could ask the doctor who prescribed the differin and antibiotics if they think tri-luma or other similar products with a prescription strength hydroquinone will help you.
The acne scarring is a tougher issue, usually a series of resurfacing lasers an help, I've also seen scars injected with fillers (the same kinds people use to plump their lips with). These are normally considered cosmetic procedures and can be costly, but if the scarring really bothers you I would make sure you find a good dermatologist or plastic surgeon who has a good reputation.
Hope this helps,
