Toilet paper is soft and absorbent tissue paper that is used for the purpose of daily hygiene. Although today it is widely considered a necessity of life, toilet paper was not actually invented until the late 1800s. Now, multiple companies offer multiple choices among toilet paper, so you must take into account softness, absorbency, price, and more.
The Charmin brand of toilet paper is a product of Procter & Gamble, which acquired the Charmin Paper Company in 1957. Charmin's memorable slogan, "Please don't squeeze the Charmin," promoted the toilet paper's "squeezable softness," as did its advertising character, Mr. Whipple, from 1964 to 1985. In the 1960s, Charmin became the first one-ply tissue to employ perfume in its product, but, according to its website, introduced Charmin toilet paper that is free of any inks, dyes, and perfumes in 1986.
As of November 2010, the toilet papers produced by Charmin are Charmin Basics, a value option which the company states combines performance and price; Charmin Ultra Strong; Charmin Ultra Soft; and Charmin Sensitive, which contains lotion with a touch of aloe and vitamin E. Also, the company offers Charmin Freshmates, premoistened adult wipes.
Quilted Northern bath tissue is a product of Georgia Pacific, positioning itself as the choice for softness, increased flexibility, and thickness in toilet paper. With its newly-introduced 3-ply toilet paper, the company states on its website that it has created "a plush bathroom tissue that delivers a spa-like experience to consumers."
The two toilet paper offerings from the company are the Quilted Northern Ultra Plush, which is 3-ply tissue, and Quilted Northern Soft & Strong.
Scott Brand toilet paper claims to marry performance and value. On its company website, Scott notes that in the 1890s, it emerged as the first company to market tissue rolls as toilet paper to the public, as a gateway to improved hygiene. Founded and named after the brothers Clarence and E. Irvin Scott in 1879, the company was acquired in the 1990s by consumer products manufacturing company Kimberly-Clarke.
The toilet paper offerings of the Scott brand include Scott Extra Soft Tissue; Scott 1000 Tissue, which has 1,000 sheets per roll; Scott Naturals Tissue, comprised 40 percent of recycled fiber; and Scott Rapid Dissolving Tissue, designed to break up quickly in the septic system.
Kruger Products, touted on its website as "Canada's leading manufacturer of quality tissue products for household, industrial, and commercial use," offers different toilet paper brands in both Canada and the United States. Its White Cloud brand of toilet paper, for instance, is offered only at Walmart stores. The company also emphasizes that its product offerings combine quality and value.
Different brands of toilet paper offerings from Kruger include Cashmere, Purex, White Swan, White Cloud, and Soft & Pure.
