Effective Fly Control in the Kitchen: A Comprehensive Guide

Not only are flies in the kitchen annoying, they can be unsanitary because food is stored and prepared there. Flies can be particularly unsanitary because of the types of substances and materials they land on and are attracted to. They carry germs and also cause food to spoil. Reproducing flies is also a huge problem in the kitchen. Start implementing strategies to get rid of them as soon as possible.

  • Keep your garbage covered and take it out frequently. Flies are attracted to garbage and will flock toward it.

  • Clean up animal waste in your kitchen immediately, as flies are also attracted to it. Be sure to check your cat's litter box, if you have one.

  • Do not leave out ripe fruits or vegetables in your kitchen. Smaller flies, such as gnats and fruit flies, are attracted to them.

  • Soak up excess moisture around your sink and drain pipes. Drain flies are attracted to standing water and will lay eggs in it.

  • Store food in airtight containers. Young flies or maggots will collect on food once they hatch. Eventually, maggots will turn into adult flies.
