Eliminate Carpet Crunch: Remove Soap Residue & Restore Softness

If after cleaning your carpet it has a crunchy feeling, it is the result of leftover soap residue. As it dried the carpet fibers stuck together making the consistency coarse. To reverse this irritating problem, you need to get rid of the soap that stayed behind. With minimal effort, this can be accomplished in little time.

  • Vacuum the carpet to help remove as much of the residue and any lingering dirt and debris that may have accumulated on the carpet since the last cleaning.

  • Rent a carpet shampooer if you don't own one already. Many local grocery stores or home improvement stores rent these out.

  • Fill the soap dispenser on the shampooer with white vinegar so that it will mix with the water.

  • Clean the carpet with the vinegar-filled shampooer. The acidity of the vinegar will help to break up the soap residue in your carpet and eliminate it.

  • Clean the carpet once again after you have gone over it thoroughly with the vinegar with only warm water to rinse it out.

  • Open windows or place a fan nearby to help create airflow and allow the carpet to dry quickly.
