Furniture causes indentations on carpet after some time. The indentations are deeper the longer the item stands on the carpet and the heavier it is. Fortunately, carpet naps can be restored to their original positions using a few household items.
Rinse a towel in warm water and squeeze until the towel is just damp. Place the towel on the indented portion of the carpet. Plug in the iron and turn it to the highest setting. Hold the iron about 3 inches above the wet towel and press the appropriate button to release steam. Repeat until the carpet is warm. Rub the indentation with your fingers to raise the nap. Then, let the carpet dry.
Place an ice cube on the indentation and let it melt. Use several ice cubes if the area is large. Vacuum the carpet when the fibers are dry to restore the nap.
Rub the indented spot with a damp cloth. Vacuum the carpet to raise the nap.
Spray the indentation with warm water; then let the fibers dry. Vacuum the dry carpet to raise the nap.
