Eliminate Acetone Odor: Effective & Simple Solutions

Acetone is a colorless and flammable chemical, found commonly in nail polish and nail polish removers. Often times, acetone leaves a strong, lingering odor, especially if it was spilled. The chemical also has a bleaching quality that can ruin your carpet as well as furniture. Getting rid of the smell of acetone is as simple as neutralizing other strong household odors.

  • Put fresh ground coffee in a glass bowl and stir daily. The coffee grounds will help to absorb odors in the room.

  • Put cat litter in a box into rooms that have unpleasant odors. Cat litter will also absorb unwanted odors.

  • Place essential oils in a glass bowl with some water. They will give the room a pleasant scent, and you can even turn this into a decorative piece by adding flower blossoms or petals. Add a few drops daily.

  • Spray odor-neutralizing agents such as Febreze daily until the smell is gone.

  • Place lemon and orange or any citrus fruit peels in a pretty bowl or vase to add a fresh scent to the room. Citrus fruits can overpower unwanted odors. Replace peels weekly.

  • Place baking soda or activated charcoal in a small container and set in the room on a high shelf. Baking soda and activated charcoal are both odor absorbers and low maintenance as they do not need to be changed daily.
