Acetone is a colorless and flammable chemical, found commonly in nail polish and nail polish removers. Often times, acetone leaves a strong, lingering odor, especially if it was spilled. The chemical also has a bleaching quality that can ruin your carpet as well as furniture. Getting rid of the smell of acetone is as simple as neutralizing other strong household odors.
Put fresh ground coffee in a glass bowl and stir daily. The coffee grounds will help to absorb odors in the room.
Put cat litter in a box into rooms that have unpleasant odors. Cat litter will also absorb unwanted odors.
Place essential oils in a glass bowl with some water. They will give the room a pleasant scent, and you can even turn this into a decorative piece by adding flower blossoms or petals. Add a few drops daily.
Spray odor-neutralizing agents such as Febreze daily until the smell is gone.
Place lemon and orange or any citrus fruit peels in a pretty bowl or vase to add a fresh scent to the room. Citrus fruits can overpower unwanted odors. Replace peels weekly.
Place baking soda or activated charcoal in a small container and set in the room on a high shelf. Baking soda and activated charcoal are both odor absorbers and low maintenance as they do not need to be changed daily.
