Practically speaking, you can do a lot. There are a number of home remedies in this post that are proven to give you instant relief from head cold and its related symptoms. Delay no more and read the post! And yes, don’t let head cold bother you again in your life!

What Is A Head Cold?

A head cold is a type of common cold, but the areas that get affected are the nose and the head (1). Unlike the common cold, a head cold lasts longer. It may last somewhere between 1 week and ten days. But one thing that the common cold and head cold share is that they both are manageable at home. You do not need a doctor’s advice, unless the cold lasts for more than ten days.

Following are the home remedies for head cold:

1. Steam Bath:

When you are suffering from a head cold, a bath with hot water is soothing. It relaxes your mucous filled nose and sinusitis (2). The steamy water clears the ears and nose passages, bringing you the much needed relief.

2. Hot Facial Compresses:

Use hot facial compresses to give your facial skin a soothing sensation. Take a towel and put it in the microwave. You can also wet it by putting it over a steamy substance. Wrap the towel around your face. Like a steam bath, a hot facial compress clears off nasal congestions.

3. Steamy Water:

Instead of using fancy inhalers, opt for a home-made inhaling system. Take a pot or any other vessel. Fill it with water and put the vessel on the stove. As the steam from the water comes out, stand at a distance from the vessel and inhale the steam.

4. Spicy Food:

Eating spicy food also helps heal head cold. Opt for chilli pepper or wasabi (3). These two are hot flavored-foods. They produce vapors that help in clearing off the nasal passage.

5. Peppermint Tea:

Make yourself a cup of peppermint tea. Take a few leaves of peppermint. Leave them to dry for a night. In the morning, boil water and add two teaspoons of peppermint tea to it. Boil the drink and then strain it. Peppermint tea clears your nose.

6. A Slow Walk:

Take a walk outside in the open. Fresh air and sunshine comfort you. They help in breathing better. Taking a walk outdoors also relieves you of the pain that arises due to head cold.

7. Exercise:

Carry out an exercise. Opt for something that you think is fun. When you perform an exercise, your body produces heat. The heat helps to clear the clogged nose.

8. Lemon Tea:

Drinking lemon tea is the best remedy for head cold. Fill a vessel with water. Add tea leaves to it. Let it boil. Now, take a cup. Pour a teaspoon of lemon juice in it. Add the boiled water. Now, add sugar to the mixture. You are good to drink your lemon tea. Lemon has citric acid. It helps to cut down cold.

9. Chicken Soup:

Chicken soup contains nutrients and vitamins to heal a head cold. It also serves as an antioxidant to accelerate the healing process. Drink a thick soup made of chicken and vegetables.

10. Nasal Rinsing:

Nasal rinsing is a process to clear your nasal cavity off mucous. When you have a head cold, rinse your nose with saline water. Washing your nasal passage with saline water keeps the dirt and irritants at bay. Your nasal hygiene helps to lower the head cold symptoms.

When you contract head cold the next time, you aren’t going to worry anymore, are you!
