Some of the following postures will aid digestion and boost your energy so that you can combat bloating with confidence:
The Postures:
Virasana or Hero pose: As well as being great for stretching your quads, ankles and shins, sitting upright like this with a long spine and torso provides the perfect posture for digestion. (If it hurts your knees sit on a bolster or block or simply leave this one out).
Adho Mukha Svanasana or Downward Facing Dog: A delicious downward facing dog is excellent for decompressing the spine and bringing energy into the body. Deep breaths and a gentle shake of the head here will clear away those negative thoughts and energise the whole body.
Lunging Twist: A strengthening and energising twist which will give the internal organs a good rinse or massage. You’ll also start to build heat in the body and feel alive! Emphasise drawing the navel gently into the spine as you exhale with this one to create more space in which to twist and rinse. Twists are fab for getting everything moving inside and aid in the detoxification process.
Paschimottanasana or Seated Forward Bend: Breathe into your back body (including hamstrings and calves). Again, emphasise gently drawing the navel to spine in order to create more space in which to move into the posture. This action will also hep to relieve gas. Keep a long line through the spine and avoid rounding out in the back, instead hinge forward at your hips.
Table Top: Uplift and energise. Enjoy the opening here in your chest, shoulders and hips. Drink it in.
Kneeling Twist: A very gentle rinse to finish the sequence off.
Tips this week:
1) Where possible, breathe deeply in and out of the nose
2) Watch this video a few times before practicing it yourself or until you feel like you get an understanding of the postures.
3) If you’re menstruating, take it easy on the twists. Be gentle.
