Safe & Sustainable Weight Loss: A Practical Guide for Sedentary Lifestyles

Question
I have weighed 150 lbs. for longer than I can remember. What can I do to lose weight in a safe and healthy way but I only want to lose 15 lbs. The reason that it is hard for me to lose weight is because I don't know which vitamins to take and I am a secretary so I don't move around too much during the day. If you can help me in any way I would really appreciate it.
Thank You

Answer
Lisa, here's my simple and practical advice:

Start a walking program at lunch, and do it every day.  Try some other daily exercise or activity to help burn calories.  Coupled with a diet of fresh fruit and vegetables, lean protein, and modest carbohydrates, you'll have a winning combination.

I am a believer in calorie counting and exercise.  Not much more to it than that, really.  The trick is being consistent, and being moderate in your food intake.  Even small changes can make an impact over time.  Here's some "food for thought" (sorry for the pun, couldn't resist): simply switching from a can of Coke with lunch to a glass of water saves you 150 calories a day.  Over one year, you'll lose 10 pounds, all else being equal.

As far as vitamins, my suggestion would be a simple multivitamin, perhaps some extra vit C and an extra B-complex.

Hope that helps.
