Achieving the Liquid Gold Effect in Jewelry: Techniques & Resources

Question
Hello, I've worked with most metals apart from Gold and I love the liquid gold look I've seen on jewelery like this example: http://sattvagallery.com/sisemiminewf7.html How do you get the liquid or spayed on look?

thank you, Sharon

Answer
Hello Sharon,
That is formed from an  oval sheet of metal, and the peas are balled up  metal. There are instructions for the project in a recent  book I  purchased, as well as an article that was reccently published in I believe Art jewelry magazine. Its actually quite simple, just cutting , folding and soldering on the  stem and  sweat soldering in the  "peas"..If you give me a couple of days I'll get back to you with the article and  book..but  if you go to art jewelry magazine's site, it  is perhaps in the  past two or three months  archives of projects, and if not there, then the book which I will search for for you if necessary..but truly, look at the  shape.See the oval cut out of sheet?, it's just bent, then the elements soldered on..you could do it in an evening. Otherwise, things mass produced like that are cast from a silicone  or non-silicone RTV rubber mould that is them  used for a master then  either cast in studio or sent out to a casting house..the peapod though is a very easy  project, draw it  up first though before   cutting your sheet, then remember  you  will  cut the  ends to  form the  pod, so  a paper model may help you refine the  dimensions if tried first. then  peas, just require lengths of wire in  equal or semi-equivalent  lengths to be fluxed and  balled up on a charcoal block, then sweated onto the  formed pod.., and a finial of a stem, with  a bit of flattening to  form  a hole and hanger in one and  a dip in the pickle, a final polish and voila'- done!
Hope this helped somewhat,Best Regards, Ari.
