Identifying Antique Crystal Jewelry: A Guide to Value & History

Question
Hi, I have what I believe is an antique jewelry set, possibly of some sort of crystal. It is still in it's original box, though there are no markings on the box at all, or on the silk or other material lining of the box. This set include a necklace, matching double strand bracelet, and old fashioned "twist" earrings. This was my Grandmothers, who unfortunately passed, so I'm not sure if it was hers, or her mothers. It is strung together by actual thread, similar looking to emroidery floss, and all clasps are imprinted with the word "silver" except the earrings because they are too small. I was wondering if you could tell me what kind of gem this may be, and if this may have any value worth appraisal. I was also wondering if you might be able to tell me around the year these pieces may be from. I have included a picture, though it does not do justice for the pieces. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at any time.

Answer
Hi,

It really is impossible to tell you what kind of stone it is from here even with a picture.  If they are clear white it could be leaded glass crystal as you think it is.  If they all look the same and are crystal clear and bright that is more than likely what it is.  Natural stones can differ slightly in color and clarity.

Synthetics have been around for a very long time even back to the 1800's

By the way your pictures did not come through.

Good luck,
