QuestionI have a trunk emblem from a 1936 Dodge. I understand the process used on them was what is known as clossiene (which I don't know a whole lot about). The emblem has been painted over and I want to strip the paint off without damaging the clossiene underneath. Is this OK to do using a paint stripper? If not, any suggestions? Also, if after stripping, the clossiene needs repair, how difficult is repairing the damage?
AnswerHello Michael and thank you for your inquiry. I am not familiar with the restoration process involved in cloisonne but I did find this website that might be able to help you:
http://enamel-auto-badge-repair.com/
Just copy and paste the above url into your browser address field and hit enter.
I know that the process must be delicate and removing any overlay with a paint stripper might be disastrous.
Hope this helps and good luck !
