Rogers Bros. Silver Jewelry Box - Value & Identification

Question

Hello,
I have a two compartment jewelry box that my father bought somewhere in Mexico. I am not sure how much of it is silver. The stamp on the bottom reads made and guaranteed by MERIDEN BCOMPANY ***ROGERS BROS. Beneath it is the number 164 USA and beneath that is 55. It has beautiful carvings and engravings. The name engraved on the top is Juana. If you pull the handle on the bottom compartment, the top rolls back to open the top compartment at the same time. I am wondering about its value and how I might find out about its history. I would appreciate any input you could give me.
Thanks,
Angelica

Answer
Hello Angelica and thank you for your inquiry. You have a beautiful silver plated jewelry box ! The information on the bottom represents the manufacturers name and design logo. The name on the top is probably the name of the original recipient. These jewelry boxes can range anywhere from $20 - $200 in value depending on the condition, uniqueness and desirability. The mechanism in yours is so unusual I would put it in the higher value bracket. For a valuation you should have it appraised either locally or by an online appraisal firm such as "What's It Worth To You". Just input that phrase into your browser search field and hit enter. They will work from a good photograph which you have and their fee is minimal. Hope this helps and enjoy !
