Wedding Bouquet Color Ideas for Clover Green Bridesmaids

Question
QUESTION: Good Evening Melanie!
I am getting married July 2010, and have a question about my colour scheme. My bridesmaids are in clover green (not apple, not olive, not mint, but somewhere in between).
I was thinking of going all white flowers, but people keep saying that I need some colour in my bouquets.
Right now, I am going with white calla lilies for my bridesmaids *7 for my MOH and 5 for my bridesmaids) just in a lng bundle, wrapped in a clover green sleeve with buttons on it. For my bouquet, I was doing white roses, white stephanotises with pearls in the middle, and then mini white calla lilies.
BUT, again I think I need colour. I am really liking that eggplant purple colour that is really in right now; but I'm not sure how well that will go with clover green.
I have also seen a sky blue/aqua colour with clover in a lot of bridal magazines form this past summer, and they look really good together.
I want to keep my bridesmaid bouquets simply calla lilies, but want to spice mine up a bit. Any suggestions how to do so with my clover green theme?
Thanks!!

Answer
HI Again Courtney!
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to assist you further.
Your colors sound lovely. I know the color you speak of for your green.. beautiful!
The aubergine (eggplant) color is a nice choice as is the blue tones. It really depends on what you envision for your wedding.
A summer wedding brings about thoughts of light and brighter colors. The beautiful thing about flowers for a July wedding is that everything will be available to you for choices!
You could pull in a hint of yellow or bright oranges with the green and white for a more contemporary feel to your day for your attendants or, keeping with the formality of your bouquet of roses, callas and steph, you could go with the aubergine. I would perhaps throw in a splash of lime green with the flowers if you do the aubergine and white. Amazing punch of color that will show up very well in photos, etc.
Here are some examples (you might have to copy and paste into a new browser window..)

White/yellows and greens:

White with aubergine and greens to bring in the lime color:

You can play around with color with the specific blooms that you are carrying as well, meaning that roses offer up a tonne of color options, as do callas. You can use these elements to bring color into your mix without necessarily changing your choice of flowers.
There are some amazing 'green' rose colors that you can look through at:

http://www.eufloriaflowers.com/home.html     (You will have to click on "Gallery" and then "Roses" and scroll through the top menu to choose from their color palette)

This will give you an idea how the green-yellows can work with the whites if you choose to go bright colors.

Calla lilies come in aubergine as well, both in full size and in minis. They also come in green which are just as stunning, as well as yellow. Harder to find is a white calla with an aubergine center.. but ask your florist, they may be able to find it for you! Here is a picture of one:

Here is a good example of the various 'aubergine'tones in wedding flowers, again, coupled with that lime green and white...

I would be more tempted to pull the color into your bouquet. I assume that your dress will be a traditional wedding gown color (white, ivories, etc). An all-white bouquet will get 'lost' against your dress unless you have ample 'contrast' (ie: color or greens) to set it off.
As I always told the brides I did flowers for: Your flowers won't last forever, but your wedding photos will.. Think contrast to make them really photograph nice on your day!. Since you will be in the white/off white.. have some color in your flowers, and let your attendants carry the white bouquets with their green dresses. Amazing looking!

For a more formal look, I would suggest for your bouquet: Keep your white roses and the steph with the pearls.. (how about adding lime green pearls?.. doesn't even have to be all of them.. just maybe some..) Then make your callas the aubergine and make sure the florist pulls in some wonderful greens.. like maybe some loops of lily grass, or some sedum..
Then the girls can carry their specified numbers of callas.. wrap then in aubergine ribbon or in white.. their green dresses will provide the perfect backdrop for either!
OR.. make your MOH carry the aubergine callas (or white with the aubergine center) and the bridesmaids the white..

If you want to go more contemporary, make your white, your callas yellow and your steph will be white obviously. Keep your pearls white but have some great greens again.
Make your MOH carry all yellow callas, and the bridesmaids all white, OR, give your MOH the callas and give your girls roses in a mix of yellow and white (small bouquets or it can get costly)

There are so many options and lots to think about! You can do searches on the internet by color scheme.. simply search for 'white and aubergine wedding flower images" (or whatever color) and you'd be amazed at what you can find.

I hope I've helped a bit more and haven't confused you further. You should be able to call up your florist if you have one picked already, and have them help you envision the colors together better. They can pull you in on a day when they have some applicable stock in their coolers and show you some options. If they won't work with you that way, move on to another one until you have one that will.. that's important too!

Best of luck and let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with!

Warmest Regards,

Melanie Lauren
