Bridesmaid Dress Refund Rights: What Are Your Options?
QuestionHello,
I was suppose to be a bridesmaid in a wedding party. I got fitted for and paid for (in full)for a bridesmaid dress. A couple of months before the wedding the wedding got called off. Now, the bridal dress store refuses to give me a refund or give me my dress. Is this legal?
AnswerIn all likelihood the shop is within its rights. First, I would suggest double checking any paperwork you may have from the store, particularly the stores refund/return policy. My guess is that you cannot return the dress. The store is not responsible for the couple's relationship and they have fulfilled there responsibilities (getting the right dress in an appropriate time frame).
Instead of getting angry, talk calmly with the store owner and see if they might be able to sell the dress for you. It also couldn't hurt to ask if they would do an exchange with you, though don't be surprised if they say no. You can also try and sell the dress on E-bay or Craig's List.
