AnswerHi Izura!
Thanks for the question and congratulations on your engagement!
Any gown style does very well in a garden setting, so in that regard there's really no certain 'style' that you have to take into consideration.
Your body type is the most critical element in choosing the most flattering wedding gown style. Thank you for sharing that information so I can direct you easier.
For you, definitely stick with the A-line style dress. Keep your train length minimal, and be sure the neckline is not straight across. This will give the illusion that parallels you with the ground, making you appear shorter or enhancing your shortness. So what you want to look for is an A-line with a sweetheart neckline. You may need to avoid halters, depending on how wide you are at the shoulder. Sometimes, bigger girls can look like football players in a halter gown, so be sure to use a second opinion that you trust. Try to avoid anything that gives that horizontal line (ruffles, beading that creates a strong definite horizontal line, etc).
If you choose to wear a veil, be sure it falls at least to the shoulder blades in order to not fall at a strong line, such as shoulder level.
If you find a clean A-line does not sit smooth over your waist/hip area, you can definitely consider a gown with an asymmetrical waistline (meaning it pulls up or down to one side, usually with some rouching (gathering). This style is effective in helping to smooth out the transition between a smaller waist and fuller hip, where fabric can sometimes not lay nice.
As for color, depending on your coloring, stark white vs an ivory or a natural white will really be your personal taste. If you are quite pale, a more natural white would be better.
I hope this helps.. good luck in your search.. be very clear with what you are looking for and be sure you communicate that with the sales girls in every salon you visit. Don't let them try to sway you to make a sale... take someone with you that you trust completely and who will honor what looks best on you.
Warmly,
Melanie
