Question -
My baby is 5  months old .She is always grunting when she wants to poo-poo. Is this normal.

Answer -
Hello Tayo- yes, this is normal. When she passes the stool, is it very hard and dry or is it soft? If hard and dry, she needs more water in her diet and possibly some prunes. Hope that helps- Cheri.

Question -
The stool is always always soft. That is why it is always worrisome. My wife has not seen her period since delivery 5 months ago.

Answer
Hello again Tayo. Well, your baby is NOT constipated, just putting in some extra effort into passing her stools. She is fine. Is she being breastfed? If so, that is why your wife has not resumed her cycles. With proper breastfeeding, many women don't resume their cycles until the baby is 6-12 months old- this is nature's way of preventing babies from being too close together and giving her body a rest. The ideal spacing between children is at least 3 years. That way, each child gets Mother's valuable attention in the most important formative years. I encourage her to keep breastfeeding as long as the baby desires- both my children were nursed for 2 1/2 years. Solid food is really not vital in the first year- breastmilk is the most valuable nutrition until 12 months. Hope that helps- Cheri.
