IUD Hormones & Period Changes: A Patient's Concerns

Question
-Lilly
Thank you so much for the advice-
I hate taking these hormones - I don't know if taking the prempro will cause me to have longer periods if I stay on it all the time? But I will try them and see - (have not started yet this month just the pms)
and I would really like to have another IUD put in,( and take the risk)    and other forms birth control are so - well interrupting?) And when I had the IUD everthing went fine. The gyn that removed the IUD said he would not put one in - but you know what is strange to me he was ready to give me a birth control pill - that I had to sign a paper saying I knew all the risk of them - to me the risk were a lot more than having to have another IUD surgically removed,,( I smoke) I am leary about asking the gyn I am going now because of the last gyn.. I just wish they would understand I don't find the risk greater that the pill..
I just want to feel like me again!
If you ever run across a patient that says she quit having periods after a D&C please make sure that the dr.is hearing what she is saying.. I promise  her life changed overnight.
Than you for taking you time to help people in this world where so many people don't care.

Question -
Dear Lilly,
First I want to thank you for your time.

I am 45 years old have one child. In Jan (03) I had to have a IUD surgically removed (it embedded in my uterus) after the surgery I stopped having periods - I never missed periods before this.. (I will try to make this short)
My gyn said it was menopause.. I ask how menopause came over night? He did a fsh  In sept   it was 39 (in may it was 6.4) anyway I did some investigating and found about Ashermans - contacted gyn he said no.. so found abother gyn she said it sounded like it to her,(ashermans) she put me on antibotic and prempro I started my period 10 days after taking the prempro Fsh went to 24 soon after  and have a period every month
- Now- I am having terrible PMS -sore tender breast, mood swings, cramps - I did not want to take the prmpro daily so I have been taking it once a month to help start my period. ( i don't know if it is the prempro or my periods are just lined up - is it the prempro ? I am trying this month with out the prempro .. I just know that every since the surgery I have not felt the same I really want my life back,, and it seems doctors do not understand everone wants to hand me a hormone -
Could you tell me how long it takes to get over Asherman's

Any help would be appreciated...

Thank YOu so much

Answer -
HI Connie,
I really think you need the prempro daily, this will balance the hormones and hopefully stop the pms symptoms. If you con't as you are taking it once a month you are only messing with the hormones and it will keep happening. It may take a while, but continue taking it as your ob ordered and maybe at sometime you can stop.

Answer
another thing to do, is see another gyn and take your records and get them to sit  down with you and go over both aspects of them and then decide what to do before you take the hormones as each of them have side effects and this is really important in order to do what is best with the least problems. I didn't realize you were a smoker and 45. Seek another gyn and third opinion never hurts inorder to get someone to listen to you. Keep me posted.
