Muscle Relaxers & Cortisone During Pregnancy: Safety Concerns

Question
I am 31 yrs old, I have 2 children and the first day of my last period was Feb. 19th 2004.  My question is, I went to my podiatrist and he used a muscle relaxer on my foot and used cortisone shots.  Is this safe to do during pregnancy?  He told me it was safe but my dr is not open today and it makes me a little nervous.  I have felt a litle nausea since.  Please let me know.

Thank You
Regina

Answer
Cortisone and muscle relaxers are safe during pregnancy. We use cortisone during pregnancy for the treatment of Asthma, and, even though there is a less than 1% chance of cleft palate formation, it is quite rare and easily corrected these days. Don't worry.
