Understanding Fetal Transverse Position & Treatment Options

Question
The baby is at present "transverse" or something to that effect.Should the baby not turn by next week the doctor says she will try and turn it. She also warns that this may lead to giving birth during this procedure, possibly by caeserian. How dangerous is the "turning" for my wife and child?

Thanks for your previous responce. Hope to hear from you soon

Answer
Hello Chris. As long as ultrasound is used to help the dr. with the turning, all should be well. The procedure could well cause labor to begin and if the head is not down in the pelvis, there is no point in allowing labor to continue and a section will be done. There could be very good reasons that the baby is in this position- a cord problem or an abnormality of the uterus etc. The turning is well worth the try because sections are ALWAYS more dangerous for both Mom and baby than a vaginal birth. Hope that helps- Cheri.
