Pregnancy Without Intercourse & Irregular Periods: Expert Answers

Question
Thanks so much for your answer it was very helpful!  I have a few other questions.  I know that you can get pregnant without intercourse but could you please tell me how common it is or give me some statistics.  I was also wondering if sore nipples and frequent urination are symptoms of PMS.  Also, my periods are soooo irregular so I probably dont ovulate the 14th day because sometimes my periods are 20, 24, even 35 days apart, so is there any way that i can know when i am ovulating? It would be great if you could answer all my questions but the main one is how common it is for girls to get pregnant without intercourse.  Thanks so much!

Answer
I do not have any numerical statistics for you, but it is EXTREMELY rare to become pregnant without intercourse. However, (theoretically) if some semen is deposited on your thigh or vulva and it is wet or moist, the sperm can swim into the vagina and you can conceive (if it is at the time of the month that you ovulate). As I mentioned before, if he inserts the penis into the vagina and tries to withdraw before ejaculation, the 300,000 sperm at the tip of the penis can be milked into the vagina and you can conceive.  PMS is a very vague entity. We do not diagnose PMS unless you have the symptoms from 3 days prior to your period up to 3 days after it starts. If you have any symptoms at any other time, it is not considered to be PMS. You may be premenstrual if you have sore nipples, but frequent urination may be merely a sign of urinary tract infection or a sign of diabetes. It is usually not PMS.
