Delayed Period: When to See a Doctor & Potential Causes
QuestionMy husband and I have been trying to have a baby since September 2003. I am 27 years old and am in good health. I do not have any medical problems. Since being off of birth control, my periods have ranged from 34-44 days of duration. The start of my last period was on 4/29/04 and I have not had a period since. I had a few days of VERY light pink discharge on days 32, 33, and 48. This was very minor and I didn't have to even wear a pantyliner. I have done 4 pregnancy tests on days 43, 47, 53, and 63 and they have all had negative results. I have never skipped a period before and I have not had any changes in my health. I have researched causes for delayed periods and none of the causes apply to me. Today marks the 69th day since my last period. I am wondering, at what point do I need go to the doctor? Should I get a pregnancy blood test done first to rule out that I am definitely not pregnant?
AnswerHello Amy- Yes, I think it would be wise to seek medical advise at this point. A blood test will likely be done anyway, and you will find out for sure- though I am quite sure you are not pregnant. You do need to find out why your cycles are not happening- there could be many reasons. All the best- Cheri.
