Pregnancy After Hysterectomy: Understanding Your Options

Question
I am 34, with one 13 year old son, I cannot recall any dates of last menstral cycles because I haven't had any for years.  In 2000 I had a partial hysterectoy leaving both ovaries.  This was due to severe endometryosis (sp).  Can I become and carry a child still?  Somehow?  Thank you very much!  Shannon Searles

Answer
Since you do not have a uterus, you cannot carry a pregnancy. Since you do have ovaries, you do produce ova (eggs) and they can be collected and can be used for invitro fertilization. However the embryo would have to be placed into a surrogate who has a uterus. Without a uterus, there is no way to carry  pregnancy or to conceive in your body.
