AnswerThroughout the pregnancy, the baby floats within the uterus in the amniotic sac. As you get closer and closer to your due date, the baby starts to travel down towards the birth canal. Sometimes, the baby may be too big to come down. This can be due to gestational diabetes or some other difficulty in going into labor. If your last period started on September 6, you are due on June 13. If you have a large baby or diabetes, your doctor may want to delivery you under controlled conditions rather than to wait for you to go into labor on your own. If the baby does not descend or you do not start having contractions by your due date, your doctor may want to try an induction of labor. If the head does not descend while you are being induced, it may be safer for you and the baby to deliver you by cesarean section.
